I have an acquaintance who went through severe reflux with her little one. The baby wasn’t able to eat solids until well after her first birthday, she had developed an oral aversion because of all the pain associated with eating. The child had to have G-button surgery, and had an ostomy bag for a while. Severe reflux is very difficult for both baby and family to deal with and I know you must be so worried for your little one.http://www.infantrefluxdisease.com is a good resource for information and they also have an online community/chatboard for the parents of infants with GERD. There’s a lot of good support there. Here’s a page from that site with info on complications from GERD: http://infantrefluxdisease.com/babies-wi…
I send good thoughts for you and your baby-
She is and was too young for cereal and baby food. Especially being premature that is really hard on her system. Its the same and trying to have a grown person eat regular food when they are on a liquid diet.
My daughter had a little reflux for a couple months and we were told to prop her up and try to have her lay on her side instead of her back. To prevent her from choking on her vomit. They have special triangle type pillows to prop your child up on so they aren’t laying flat.
Have you asked your pediatrician about what kind of formula may be best for your daughter? The medication she is on may be doing her more harm than good. Don’t you think going through six different medications in 4 months would tear your stomach up. Just imagine what it could be doing to her little body.
Well…my question is, how old is your daughter??
hello, my daughter was also premature and had reflux although she didnt have a severe case of it , the doctor told me to elevate her bed, and to also put rice cereal in her formula (one teaspoon per every ounce), and to make sure i burped her very frequently all of this seemed to help her alot…as for someone saying that its not good for her to have cereal its not going to hurt her just that little bit in her milk my baby is fine and it helped her keep it down because the milk was thicker like someone said before ENfamil does make a formula that has added rice in it its called Enfamil AR+ (the ar stands for added rice), Im not sure how old she is but my baby was on it from day one and she was a month early.
My heart goes out to you, my daughter had the same thing. The Dr. put her on special formula caled Nutramagen, (check spelling) only one that worked after dozen where tried, expensive but worked. Then we added ceral to the formula to almost make it like a milk shake, and cut the nipple open a lil more….so it would stay down. The more watery the formula the quicker she will vomit it up like the girl from the Exorcist!
Hang in there make sure you use the ceral it really helps in the bottle, she will out grow it, but in the mean time try to have patience it does suck. We also had her on Zantax i would squirt it into her mouth by a plastic synrige. Good Luck!!
Two of my children had the problem one more severe than the other. The less severe case was 16 yrs ago and we had to put him on nutrimagin (sp error?) that was very expensive. That helped somewhat. He still had a tummy ache and threw up alot. My second son 14 yrs ago ended up with phnemonia @ 3 mos. because fluid filled his lungs. We did switch to enfamil put cereal in his bottle to thicken it (very thick) so he would be able to use his reflux muscles alot better. We also had to elevate his crib while sleeping. My father just made blocks that we put under his legs on his crib to elevate his upper body. Please keep telling your pediatrician that this is continuing with your baby.
had the same problem, had to change and use special milk made for baby that wont stop vomiting,,
..
i don’t no if it will work with you but the name is Enfamil Thickened A+. but its expensive and we start cereal early too
baby was crying a lot because reflux hurt theme a lot,,
